Anambra Police Arrest 8 Suspects for Kidnapping, Cultism, and Armed Robbery

Anambra State Police Command has successfully apprehended eight suspects for various crimes, including kidnapping, cultism, illegal possession of firearms, and armed robbery.

According to a statement released by the command's spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Friday, September 13, 2024, the suspects were arrested following a technology-driven investigation and joint security operations.

In one instance, two suspects (names withheld) were arrested in their hideout in Nnewi, in connection with a kidnapping case reported on August 19, 2024, in Ihiala. The suspects confessed to their involvement in the crime and provided valuable information to aid the investigation. Ikenga stated, "Anambra Police working on a technology-driven investigation arrested two suspects... The arrest is in a follow-up of the reported case of a kidnapped but later released victim... The suspects confessed to being active participants in the crime and have already provided information to the Police that is aiding the Investigation."

Additionally, a joint security operation led by the Police in Aguata Base resulted in the arrest of five suspects, all males between the ages of 20-26, from Umunze. The suspects, identified as Okorie Miracle, Joshua Ifeanyi Ekwa, Aneke Okorie, Mmesoma Faithful, and Chukwuzekwu Mba, were found with locally made short guns, vandalized electricity cables, and tools used to commit the crime. Ikenga noted, "The suspects all confessed to the crime and currently assisting the Police with information to arrest other gang members and buyers of the vandalised items."

In another incident, operatives from the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) arrested Chigozie Ejikeme, a 25-year-old member of the Black Axe secret cult, who was found with a locally made Bretta pistol and live ammunition. Ikenga said, "The suspect, upon interrogation by the operatives, confessed to being a member of the Black Axe secret cult. The suspect vehicle, a black Lexus, was also recovered."

All eight suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
