The Gunners are preparing for their North London clash against Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.
Recall that Arsenal were held to a draw against Brighton last weekend with Declan Rice being sent off.
Speaking to the media ahead of the match this weekend, Arteta acknowledged that Merino is making progress, although it's a gradual process.
Recall that Merino sustained a shoulder injury during training after his team mate fell on him.
He explained, “It’s a slow process, but we’re using this time to make him understand the system, the ideas we have so he’ll be able to help as soon as he returns.” This period of adaptation is crucial as the Spanish international familiarizes himself with Arsenal's tactical setup.
Merino, who joined Arsenal from Real Sociedad, cost the club £27.4 million, with an additional £4.2 million in performance-based add-ons. The total transfer deal could rise to £31.6 million. He signed a four-year contract with an option to extend for another year.
Arsenal's next match will be a highly anticipated Premier League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, September 15, 2024.
