Eguavoen Debunks Resignation Rumors: 'I'm Still in Charge of Super Eagles'
Austin Eguavoen, the interim coach of the Super Eagles, has categorically denied reports of his resignation following the team's recent 2025 AFCON qualifiers against the Benin Republic and Rwanda.

Eguavoen Debunks Resignation Rumors: 'I'm Still in Charge of Super Eagles'

Eguavoen, who was appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to lead the team in the absence of German coach Bruno Labbadia, successfully guided the Super Eagles to a 3-0 win over the Benin Republic and a goalless draw against Rwanda.

"It's quite unfortunate that people just trigger something that is not correct. And the situation we are in now, we don't need negative stories," Eguavoen said, expressing his disappointment with the misinformation. He emphasized his commitment to the team, stating, "I'm still very much in charge. I'm the Technical Director of the NFF, saddled with the responsibility of taking the Super Eagles at this moment."

Eguavoen clarified his earlier statement, explaining that he intended to discuss the team's future strategy with the NFF hierarchy after the two games, not resign. "I only talked about sitting down with the hierarchy of the federation after these two games and we will see how to go about prosecuting the next games," he said. With the next AFCON qualifiers against Libya looming, Eguavoen's confirmation as interim coach provides stability and continuity for the Super Eagles.
