Bobrisky’s legal troubles have escalated significantly with this new development, as the House of Representatives seeks to address allegations of corruption surrounding his prosecution.

The House committee has demanded answers from the heads of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service, signaling that this case goes far beyond a typical legal matter. The summoning of such high-ranking officials underscores the seriousness of the claims.

In the letter dated September 27, 2024, the committee instructed EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyode and Correctional Service Comptroller Haliru Nababa to present themselves before the House on September 30, along with all officers linked to the case. This is seen as a direct effort to probe deeper into the roles these institutions may have played in allegedly granting undue privileges to Bobrisky during his incarceration.

Among those expected to testify are senior correctional officers like ACG Ben Rabbi Freedman, who was the Controller of Corrections in Lagos at the time, and Ja’afaru Ahmed, the Secretary to the Board. Also summoned are Micheal Anugwa, who oversees Medium Security, and Sikiru Adekunle, the officer in charge of Maximum Security. Bobrisky, along with VeryDarkMan, a vocal critic of the alleged misconduct, is also expected to provide testimony.

At the heart of the issue is the accusation that Bobrisky was not only given preferential treatment but was able to avoid more severe charges through bribery. Earlier in the year, Bobrisky had been sentenced to six months in prison for the misuse of the naira, but new allegations have emerged suggesting that he paid N15 million to the EFCC in exchange for dropping money laundering charges.

These claims gained further traction when an audio recording, reportedly released by VeryDarkMan, surfaced. In the recording, it is alleged that Bobrisky spent his sentence in a VIP facility rather than a standard prison, adding fuel to the fire of an already controversial case. The audio has sparked widespread public outrage, with many calling for a thorough investigation into the integrity of the EFCC and Correctional Service.

The House of Representatives’ decision to launch an official investigation into these bribery allegations highlights the growing concern over the potential manipulation of Nigeria’s justice system by influential individuals. This probe aims to expose any misconduct and ensure that those responsible for undermining the legal process are held accountable.
