Julian Nagelsmann has officially announced that Kai Havertz will serve as Germany's new vice-captain. This decision comes as part of a broader leadership reshuffle following the retirement of Ilkay Gundogan from international football after Euro 2024. Havertz, who currently plays for Arsenal, has earned 51 caps and scored 18 goals for the national team.
Nagelsmann praised Havertz's contributions and leadership qualities, highlighting his importance to the team. Alongside Havertz, Joshua Kimmich has been appointed as the new captain, with Antonio Rudiger also named as a vice-captain.
Germany is set to play two matches during this international break. They will face Hungary on September 7th and the Netherlands on September 10th in the UEFA Nations League. These games will be crucial as Germany looks to build momentum under their new leadership structure.
