Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has provided a concerning update on the injury status of team captain Martin Odegaard.

The midfielder, who sustained an ankle injury while playing for Norway during the recent international break, has been diagnosed with significant ligament damage. This injury is expected to sideline him for an extended period.

Arteta shared the news during a press conference ahead of Arsenal's Champions League match against Atalanta.

He explained, "The scans showed some damage around the ligaments in the ankle, so we are going to miss him. It’s something quite significant, so we are going to lose him for a while. Hopefully not months."

The Arsenal boss emphasized the impact of Odegaard's absence on the team, noting, "He’s our captain. He’s been one of the biggest and best players in our team. Our identity is very linked to how he plays and behaves. It’s a big test for the team to see how able we are to show a different face."

Arteta also spoke about the team's mentality going into the Champions League clash, stating, "If you want to achieve big things, you need to have the mentality of trying to win every single game. That is what we need to do and that is what we want to do. You have to keep believing in what you are doing. We are doing that and we keep working hard to improve and doing right the things."

This injury update comes as a significant blow to Arsenal, who are preparing for crucial matches in both the Champions League and the Premier League. The team will need to adapt quickly to maintain their performance levels in Odegaard's absence.
