Nigeria Declares Public Holiday for Eid-ul-Mawlid Celebration on September 16

The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, September 16, 2024, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-ul-Mawlid, a significant celebration in the Islamic calendar marking the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him).

According to a statement released by Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government. In the statement, Minister Tunji-Ojo said: "In observance of the birthday of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), the Federal Government has declared Monday, September 16, 2024, as a public holiday."

Minister Tunji-Ojo further stated: "We felicitate with all Nigerians, especially our Muslim brothers and sisters, on this special occasion. May the blessings of Allah be upon us all as we celebrate the birth of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him)."

The declaration of the public holiday is a recognition of the significance of Eid-ul-Mawlid in the Islamic faith and a demonstration of the Federal Government's commitment to promoting unity and inclusivity among all Nigerians, regardless of their religious beliefs.
