In an interview on The Obi One Podcast, Mikel disclosed that the deal was "hours away" from being finalized before it fell through due to minor issues and paperwork.

Mikel, who played a key role in facilitating the transfer, commended Chelsea's ambition and Victor's desire to join the club. He stated, "Both sides really played their part in terms of getting the deal done... Victor really wanted to come to the club, and Chelsea wanted him." Mikel also praised Chelsea's co-sporting director, Paul Winstanley, for his efforts in driving the club's push to sign Osimhen.

Mikel dismissed claims of Osimhen being greedy, saying, "Victor is not a greedy boy... He just wants to play football and get what he deserves." He emphasized that Osimhen is one of the best strikers in the world and would be a valuable addition to Chelsea.

The former midfielder expressed optimism about a potential future transfer, saying, "If we have to pick it back up again, we know exactly where we are... We know exactly where we have to start from." He reassured fans that there are no issues between Osimhen and Chelsea, and that the club remains interested in signing the Nigerian striker.
