This comes following a statement released on September 7, Ngelale revealed that he had submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff the previous day, informing of his decision to step back from his duties, citing the need to "frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate, nuclear family."

Ngelale explained that the decision was made after "significant consultations with my family over the past several days" and expressed hope to return to his roles, including Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen, when circumstances allow. "I look forward to returning to full-time national service when time, healing, and fate permit," he stated.

Ngelale respectfully requested privacy for his family during this challenging period, saying, "I respectfully ask for some privacy for my family and I during this time." The leave of absence takes effect immediately, with no specified return date.
