It's been learnt that this ongoing saga between the player and the French giants started from Mbappe's acrimonious departure from the club earlier in the summer, with PSG claiming that a verbal agreement between Mbappe and club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi exempted the player from receiving certain bonuses.
However, the LFP's legal commission has ruled in favor of Mbappe, ordering PSG to pay the outstanding amount. PSG has responded by stating that they will not follow the ruling, citing the need for further jurisdiction to fully resolve the case. The club alleges that Mbappe's legal representatives proposed an agreement in August 2023 to reduce his bonuses by €55 million during the 2023-24 campaign, but claims that this proposal was not signed off or sent to the league.
Mbappe has since joined Real Madrid on a free transfer, making his debut for the club in July 2024. He has played four La Liga games for Real Madrid so far, scoring two goals in the fourth game against Real Betis. Despite his successful start to life in Madrid, the dispute with his former club continues to simmer, with Mbappe having previously contacted UEFA over the salary dispute. The LFP's ruling was made after he rejected a mediation offer to resolve the dispute. PSG's refusal to pay the outstanding amount has sparked a contentious standoff between the club and their former star player.
