The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended a woman suspected of child trafficking and successfully rescued 16 children discovered in her possession at an estate in Ozuoba, located in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.

Community Alarm and Rescue Efforts


Local residents had alerted authorities about the woman’s suspicious activities, reporting that she frequently returned home with various children. According to these residents, the woman allegedly collected some of the children from churches and other unknown locations. A viral video circulating online depicts adults in the compound gathering the confused children, noting that people usually arrive to collect them. In the video, one voice remarked, “This woman is in trouble, see all these children. These ones came new. They have not come to carry them.” Another voice added, “Fine, fine children, their parents will be looking for them.”

Police Confirmation and Investigation


SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, confirmed the rescue of the 16 children, stating that the operation was carried out based on intelligence. She explained, “I can confirm the rescue of the children based on intelligence gathering. The Ozuoba team, acting on a tip-off, went there and the children were rescued from the estate within Ozuoba. 16 children in total.” She also mentioned that the case has been transferred to the Commissioner of Police Monitoring Unit for a thorough investigation.

Regarding the woman and any possible accomplices, SP Iringe-Koko indicated that the police are still investigating to determine the full extent of involvement. “Yes, an arrest has been made from the information I got, but as I said, investigation is ongoing to find out if there are others involved,” she added.
