The 28-year-old British actress, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, shared these feelings during an interview ahead of the premiere of her new six-part crime series, Joan. In the show, Turner takes on the role of real-life criminal Joan "The Godmother" Hannington, a portrayal that she says holds deep personal significance for her.
Turner and her ex-husband Joe Jonas, 35, finalized their year-long divorce earlier this month. The proceedings, which had been drawn out due to a custody dispute over their daughters, Willa, four, and Delphine, two, had caused considerable tension between the two. Despite the conflict, both parties have now settled the custody agreements.
In her interview with The Sunday Times Culture Magazine, Turner revealed how the role of Joan resonated with her own life. "Joan changed me quite a lot. From utter desperation comes so much will and ambition," she said. Turner also described how this role came at a pivotal moment in her life, saying, "The series came around at a time in my life where I had to be ambitious and fight against the forces. She gave me a lot of strength."
Reflecting on her personal journey, Turner acknowledged that her role as a mother has deeply influenced her work. "If I hadn't been a mother, I don't know if I would have been able to bring the same energy into it. It's such a struggle being a single mother," she candidly admitted.
Turner and Jonas first tied the knot in May 2019, during a surprise ceremony in Las Vegas following the Billboard Music Awards. After four years of marriage and two children, Jonas filed for divorce on September 5, 2023, in Miami-Dade County Court, citing that the marriage was "irretrievably broken," according to documents obtained by the Associated Press.
In the midst of these personal challenges, Sophie Turner has also moved on romantically. Recently, she made her relationship with aristocrat Peregrine Pearson public by going Instagram official.
