"I tried to convince Nico Williams to join Barcelona but at end he made his choice" - Alejandro Balde

Alejandro Balde revealed that he was in constant communication with Nico Williams throughout the summer transfer window, attempting to persuade him to join Barcelona.

Despite Balde's efforts and the club's interest, Williams ultimately decided to remain with Athletic Club.

Balde, who shares a close friendship with Williams, mentioned in an interview that they spoke almost daily. He said, "It is true that I talk a lot with Nico Williams. I talk to him practically every day. But in the end, everyone decides their life, decides their career and does what they want."

Barcelona had made Williams their top priority following his impressive performances at Euro 2024, where he scored two goals and provided an assist, helping Spain secure the championship. However, despite reportedly reaching an agreement with the player, the deal did not materialize, and Williams was announced as Athletic Club's new number 10.

Williams acknowledged the interest from Barcelona and other clubs but emphasized his commitment to Athletic Club. He stated, "The Euros was a showcase but my heart is at Athletic Club and I wanted to stay here. Of course, no one knows what will happen in the future."
