Manchester United manager Erik Ten Hag has urged fans to be patient with new signing Manuel Ugarte, emphasizing the need for time to integrate the Uruguayan midfielder into the squad.
Ugarte, who joined United from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial fee of £42 million, potentially rising to £50.5 million with performance-related add-ons, was a key target for Ten Hag during the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old midfielder completed his move to Old Trafford on August 30, 2024. The transfer was finalized just before the deadline, with Ugarte expressing his excitement about joining one of the world's most prestigious clubs. "First and foremost, its history, because we all know what a massive club United is," Ugarte said in his first interview as a Red Devil.
Ugarte made his debut for Manchester United as a substitute in a 3-0 victory over Southampton on September 14, 2024. He replaced Christian Eriksen in the 73rd minute and quickly made an impact with his dynamic play and solid defensive contributions. His first start came in a commanding 7-0 win against Barnsley in the League Cup, where he played for 62 minutes and received a standing ovation from the Old Trafford crowd.
In a recent press conference, Ten Hag addressed the fans' impatience and highlighted the challenges of integrating new players into the team. "In top football, you don't get time, you have to perform immediately, but that's not always realistic," Ten Hag stated. "Manuel needs time to get used to our game model, his teammates, and the intensity of the Premier League. We are in this together, and we need to be patient."
Manchester United's next match is a crucial Premier League fixture against Aston Villa on Sunday, October 6, 2024, at Villa Park. This game is pivotal for United as they look to improve their standing in the league.
