Former Manchester United and England forward Wayne Rooney, now head coach of Plymouth Argyle, was sent off during his team's Championship match against Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. Rooney, who was dismissed eight times during his illustrious playing career, has now experienced his first red card as a coach.

The ejection occurred after Rooney kicked a bottle into the crowd in frustration following Blackburn’s equalizing goal. Despite the setback, Plymouth Argyle managed to secure a dramatic 2-1 victory, with Morgan Whittaker scoring a 97th-minute winner.

Rooney, who took over as head coach for the 2024-25 season, was unavailable for post-match comments due to his dismissal. However, assistant coach Pete Shuttleworth praised Rooney’s passion and commitment, stating, "He's still passionate—we all watched him play for many years, and we all know that passion is what drives him. He's been brilliant down here."

The victory marked Plymouth Argyle’s third consecutive home win, placing them 14th in the Championship standings.
