Former Manchester United forward Diego Forlán is preparing to make his ATP Challenger tennis debut in the doubles competition at the Uruguay Open next month. Partnering with Argentina’s Federico Coria, Forlán will compete on the clay courts in Montevideo from November 11 to 17.
Forlán retired from professional football in 2019 after an illustrious career. During his time with Manchester United, he made 98 appearances and scored 17 goals. He also had successful stints with clubs like Atlético Madrid, Inter Milan, and Villarreal. Internationally, Forlán earned 112 caps for Uruguay, netting 36 goals, and was a key player in the 2010 World Cup where he received the Golden Ball award as the tournament's best player.
Transitioning to tennis, Forlán follows in the footsteps of his father, Pablo Forlán, who also took up tennis after his football career. A lifelong tennis enthusiast, Diego Forlán has been playing the sport since childhood and is eager to compete professionally.
