Amokachi, fondly known as "The Bull," earned 44 caps for Nigeria, scoring 13 goals during his international career. He played a crucial role in Nigeria's victory at the 1994 African Cup of Nations and was instrumental in securing the gold medal at the 1996 Olympics. Additionally, he participated in both the 1994 and 1998 FIFA World Cups before retiring from international football in 1999.
After retiring, Amokachi transitioned to coaching, taking on various roles, including serving as an assistant coach for the Nigerian national team from 2007 to 2014. He also had a brief stint as interim head coach between 2014 and 2015. His coaching career has included managerial positions at clubs like Nasarawa United, Enyimba, Ifeanyi Ubah, and Finnish club JS Hercules.
Lobi Stars announced Amokachi's appointment via their official Twitter account, confirming that Eugene Agagbe had been relieved of his duties and that Amokachi would take over immediately. The club hopes that his expertise will help reverse their poor form.
Currently, Lobi Stars sit 17th in the NPFL standings, having secured only one win so far this season. The club's management decided to make a change after a string of disappointing results under former coach Agagbe. Amokachi's immediate challenge will be to stabilize the team and improve their position in the league.
