Actress Meagan Good recently took to Instagram to address rumors surrounding her skin tone, after being accused of bleaching her skin. Good expressed frustration at having to defend herself, but felt compelled to speak out for the sake of her young followers.
"I can't believe I'm actually going to address this nonsense," Good began. "But I have young women who follow me, so I think it's important to give clarity... I LOVE my complexion, no matter what side of the spectrum I'm at at any particular time."
Good attributed variations in her skin tone to factors such as lighting, makeup, photography styles, and weather conditions. "My skin looks various different ways for various reasons... I tend to get lighter and darker depending upon how much sun I do or don't get."
The actress emphasized her love for her natural complexion and her decision to protect her skin from excessive sun exposure. "This is my complexion: the one I was born with... I'm opting to preserve my skin by protecting it."
Good also addressed criticism surrounding her blonde hair, stating, "GET. YO. LIFE." She explained that her hair color choices, including purple and potentially green in the future, are simply a matter of personal expression.
Concluding her statement, Good reaffirmed her pride in her identity. "I'm proud to be me, brown or tan, thick or thin, natural hair or weave or dyed purple or green. God bless." Her message aimed to promote self-acceptance and self-love, particularly among young black women.
