Seun Kuti, the Afrobeat singer, has clarified that he has no involvement in what social critic Very Dark Man (VDM) shares on social media. His statement comes in response to allegations surrounding a purported audio conversation involving popular media personality Bobrisky and musician Falz.

Seun Kuti Denies Involvement in Very Dark Man's Controversial Posts About Falz and Bobrisky

On Tuesday, September 24th, VDM posted an alleged audio conversation between Bobrisky and a male acquaintance. In the audio, Bobrisky claimed to have spoken with Falz while in prison and alleged that Falz and his father, prominent lawyer Femi Falana, SAN, attempted to secure him a presidential pardon in exchange for ₦10 million. In his analysis of the audio, VDM expressed disgust at the association between Falz and Bobrisky, even questioning Falz's sexuality with a provocative comment, "if Falz dey do," which many interpreted as a challenge to Falz's sexual orientation.

Shortly after the release of the audio, Seun Kuti addressed the situation, explaining that while VDM informed him about the audio clip, he had no influence over its release. Seun emphasized that although he and VDM share a friendly relationship, he does not control or dictate VDM's actions.

In a video shared on social media on Thursday, October 4, Seun elaborated on his relationship with VDM, stating that while VDM had mentioned the audio to him, he never actually heard the content of the tape. According to Seun, VDM never seeks approval for his actions, acting independently based on what he believes is right.

Addressing the fallout from the audio, Seun expressed regret if any of the events hurt Femi Falana, whom he referred to as "Uncle Femi." He clarified that it was never his intention to defame or insult Falana, who had previously served as his late father Fela Kuti's lawyer. Seun went on to explain that he had no ulterior motive in discussing the audio with VDM.

"I wasn't conniving and I did not have any ulterior motive because I am the one that still came out to say he told me before he said it. If I was the one pushing him, I would never have come out to say he told me. I would have been in the shadow," Seun said, adding that he had distanced himself from the matter, leaving VDM to say whatever he wanted. He expressed his deep apology to Femi Falana, making it clear that he would never engage in any activity that might disparage or insult him.

Seun also highlighted his concerns over the handling of the case by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), referencing issues of institutional lapses, particularly allegations of the EFCC receiving money to drop money laundering charges.

Further addressing the situation, Seun expressed frustration at being linked to VDM's posts. He stressed that he has no control over VDM’s actions or words, stating, “When people are talking and involving me in VDM's post, am I VDM's producer? Does he write what he wants to say to me for approval? This thing is surprising to me.”

Seun also made it clear that he did not know VDM would include certain innuendos in his video regarding Falz, adding that even if he had advised VDM not to make the video, VDM likely would have done it anyway. Seun reiterated that he had no intention of escalating the situation between VDM and Falz.

On resolving the issue, Seun explained that he made efforts to mediate between Falz and VDM, both of whom he considers "younger brothers." He said that he urged VDM to contact Falz directly and resolve the issue amicably. While Seun expressed his hope for a peaceful resolution, he emphasized that he would not take sides publicly, as doing so would only worsen the situation.

"I told him immediately to call Falz to try and sort it out within yourselves. Left to me, I would love to see an amicable ending. But if that is not the issue, I would not now come outside publicly to start taking sides between the two of them. That means I am escalating things," Seun said.

Seun concluded by revealing that he had informed VDM that Falz was displeased with the innuendos used in the analysis of the audio clip.
