The Super Eagles have successfully returned to Nigeria after being stranded at a Libyan airport during their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Qualifiers. The team encountered challenging conditions at Al Abraq Airport, which is located approximately 155 miles from Benghazi, following a last-minute diversion of their chartered flight.
In their recent first leg match against Libya, the Super Eagles secured a 1-0 victory, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring the crucial goal in the 86th minute after coming on as a substitute.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the team's determination led to an important win, strengthening their qualification prospects. Upon their return to Nigeria, they were met with relief and support from fans and officials.
Additionally, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an investigation into the incident, condemning the treatment of the Super Eagles, while the Nigerian government has summoned the Libyan Charge d’Affaires in Abuja to address the issue.
