Lobi Stars FC recently announced the appointment of Finnish coach Mika Lönnström as their new head coach.
At 50, Lönnström comes with a rich coaching background, holding a UEFA Pro Licence and extensive experience in various international roles, including positions in Thailand, Finland, and the Maldives. Before joining Lobi Stars, he served as the sporting director of HIFK Fotboll, a second-division club in Finland.
This decision was made after Lobi’s challenging start to the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) season, which has seen them struggling at 17th place with just two wins out of nine matches. Lönnström takes over from Eugene Agagbe, who was recently dismissed, and will work alongside Nigerian football legend Daniel Amokachi, who has joined the club as a technical adviser. Lönnström’s debut match will be this weekend as Lobi Stars take on Remo Stars in Ikenne.
