Chelsea captain Reece James has been ruled out of this weekend’s Premier League match against Leicester City due to a fresh hamstring injury, according to head coach Enzo Maresca.

Maresca explained, “Unfortunately, Reece felt something small and we don't want to take a risk for this game.” This new setback comes after James had only recently rejoined the team following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The injury was sustained during training on Tuesday, and although there were hopes for a quick recovery, Maresca emphasized the need for caution to avoid aggravating the injury further. “He felt something, he has to be out. For sure, this weekend and then we'll see. We don't know for how long. Hopefully it's not something long.”

With James out, Malo Gusto is expected to step in at right-back once again. The fixture against Leicester City is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 12:30 PM (UK time) at the King Power Stadium.

Chelsea supporters have expressed their frustration over James' recurring injuries, and some have suggested that the club might need to look for a replacement. Despite the challenges, Maresca remains hopeful about James' future prospects.
