Despite their initial strong start, Pep Guardiola's side ultimately could not withstand Sporting’s resilient play and dynamic counter-attacks.

The match opened with early promise for Manchester City as Phil Foden found the net in the 4th minute. Seizing on a defensive lapse, Foden stole the ball from Hidemasa Morita and confidently slotted his shot past Sporting goalkeeper Franco Israel.

However, Sporting soon regained their footing and leveled the score. Viktor Gyökeres brought Sporting back into the game in the 37th minute, using a clever touch from Geovany Quenda to strike a bouncing shot over Ederson.

The second half saw Sporting emerge with renewed energy and control. Only 22 seconds after the restart, Maximiliano Araujo scored a powerful low shot following a well-timed pass from Pedro Goncalves, giving Sporting the lead.

Shortly afterward, Sporting extended their advantage when Gyökeres converted a penalty kick after Josko Gvardiol fouled Francisco Trincao in the box. Gyökeres later completed his hat-trick in the 80th minute, scoring another penalty and cementing Sporting’s impressive win.

Though Manchester City pressed for opportunities, they struggled against Sporting's defensive resolve and quick transitions, leaving them unable to narrow the gap.

This result serves as a difficult setback for Guardiola’s team as they prepare to refocus and address upcoming fixtures.
