William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Nigerian national football team, received the prestigious Player of the Tournament award at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d'Ivoire.
Despite Nigeria's runner-up finish, Troost-Ekong's stellar performances were crucial in propelling the Super Eagles to the final, where they were narrowly defeated by the host nation, Ivory Coast.
Throughout the tournament, he netted three goals, including a critical strike in the final, and was instrumental in Nigeria’s defense. His leadership on the field was especially notable after he played through an injury, missing just one group stage match before returning to contribute fully in the knockout rounds.
