Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has identified Gabriel Martinelli as a viable replacement for the injured Bukayo Saka. Saka sustained a hamstring injury during Arsenal's 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace, which is expected to sideline him for several weeks.
Arteta noted that Martinelli has previously performed well in Saka's position, stating, "He’s played there before and he played there against Everton in the last match of last season. He did really well. He’s a good option to have. We are on it."
In addition to Martinelli, Arteta is considering other players to fill the void left by Saka's absence. Potential candidates include Leandro Trossard and Kai Havertz, who has experience playing on the right wing from his time at Bayer Leverkusen and Chelsea.
Arsenal's next fixture is scheduled for Friday, December 27, when they will host Ipswich Town at the Emirates Stadium. The match was rescheduled from its original Boxing Day slot to accommodate television broadcasting.
The team is currently dealing with multiple injuries, including those to Raheem Sterling, Ben White, and Takehiro Tomiyasu. Arteta emphasized the need for adaptability, stating, "We have to look internally at what we have and be creative... We’re going to have to be different and try to find the best way to do it and be very competitive and win a lot of games."
Despite these challenges, Arsenal aims to maintain their recent positive form as they prepare for the upcoming match against Ipswich Town.
