Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has issued a stern directive to his squad, emphasizing the necessity for heightened competition following the exclusion of Noni Madueke and Renato Veiga from the lineup in the recent defeat to Fulham. Maresca clarified that their omissions were purely "technical decisions" and not due to injuries. 
Addressing the situation, Maresca stated, "Sometimes we just take a decision and it's no more than that. The competition has to be higher, but not only for Noni Madueke. Also Renato Veiga was not in the squad and the reason is exactly the same for both of them."
Madueke, who has previously faced scrutiny over his professionalism and training consistency, responded positively to a similar situation earlier this season when he was omitted from the squad against Aston Villa. Maresca acknowledged this, noting, "Very good, fantastic and he responded very good at that time so there is no more than that. I expect the same this time, yeah, absolutely."
Despite these challenges, Madueke has been a significant contributor this season, recording five goals and three assists in 16 Premier League appearances. However, he has not scored since the victory over Southampton earlier this month.
Looking ahead, Maresca considers both Madueke and Veiga ... for selection in the upcoming match against Ipswich. He emphasized the importance of internal competition, stating, "The competition has to be higher but ... ... it's just a technical decision."
While Madueke's immediate future at Stamford Bridge appears secure, especially in light of Mykhailo Mudryk ... , continued concerns regarding his attitude could influence decisions about his role in the squad moving forward.
