Former Racing Club icon and celebrated Argentine footballer Diego Milito has been elected as the new president of the club. Milito's campaign, under the banner *"Racing Sueña"*, earned significant support, winning with 60.08% of the votes (10,267), defeating rival Christian Devia's *"Racing Gana y Avanza"*, which received 6,787 votes (39.71%).
Following his victory, Milito expressed gratitude to the supporters, stating: *"It's a beautiful day; I'm very happy, delighted. A wonderful day. With expectations, with hopes. Receiving the affection of the people. Many came to vote. I hope many more continue to come. I'm eternally grateful to the people. The best thing we have is the people."*
Sebastián Saja, another former Racing player, will join Milito's leadership team as the club's new sporting director. Reflecting on the moment, Saja highlighted the passion of Racing fans: *"The number of people is impressive. Whenever something like this happens, the fans exceed expectations. Everything is unfolding calmly and peacefully."*
Milito’s presidency adds him to the growing list of former footballers who have assumed leadership roles at major Argentine clubs, alongside figures such as Juan Román Riquelme (Boca Juniors) and Juan Sebastián Verón (Estudiantes).
This election marks a new chapter for Racing Club, with Milito’s tenure anticipated to bring a blend of football expertise and a deep connection to the club's history.
