Javier Mascherano has been officially unveiled as Inter Miami's new head coach, succeeding Gerardo "Tata" Martino.
Mascherano, a former Argentina and Barcelona star, signed a contract running through 2027 and will lead the team starting with the 2025 season.
He brings significant experience, having previously coached Argentina's Under-20 national team since 2021 and recently managing the country's team at the 2024 Olympics.
Mascherano's appointment reconnects him with Lionel Messi, with whom he shared a long-standing partnership during their time at Barcelona and with Argentina.
Other familiar faces at Inter Miami include Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and Luis Suárez. David Beckham, a co-owner of the club, expressed enthusiasm about Mascherano's leadership, citing his "relentless determination" and blend of experience as both a player and coach.
Inter Miami has been ambitious in its growth, securing trophies like the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2024 MLS Supporters’ Shield under Martino's guidance. However, setbacks in the 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup and MLS playoffs prompted the coaching change. Mascherano will aim to build on this foundation as Miami prepares for upcoming challenges, including the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup and continued MLS campaigns.
