The 39-year-old, who has been battling chronic hip pain, has announced his retirement from professional football.

The match against Celta de Vigo was marked by heartfelt tributes. Navas entered the pitch accompanied by his children, receiving a guard of honor from both teammates and opponents. The Sevilla supporters unveiled a large 'tifo' emblazoned with 'Orgullo de Nervión' ('Pride of Nervión'), celebrating Navas's dedication to the club.

During the game, Navas played as the starting right-back, a position he adeptly transitioned to from his original midfield role over his career. In the 71st minute, he was substituted, departing the field amid applause and visible emotion. He embraced fellow players, including Celta's captain and former Sevilla teammate Iago Aspas, and paused to kiss the pitch, symbolizing his deep connection to the club.

Navas's career is distinguished by significant achievements. He made over 700 appearances for Sevilla, securing multiple titles, including four UEFA Europa League trophies. His international tenure with Spain was equally impressive, earning 56 caps and contributing to victories in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Championships in 2012 and 2024.

In a post-match press conference, Navas expressed his gratitude and reflected on his unwavering commitment to Sevilla FC. He stated, "I have given everything until the last day, for my Sevilla, Spain, Puerta, and Reyes," referencing his late teammates Antonio Puerta and José Antonio Reyes. He emphasized the importance of maintaining the club's values of dedication and courage, hoping his legacy would inspire future generations.

Despite his retirement from playing, Navas's association with Sevilla FC will continue. He has accepted a lifetime contract with the club, which includes a future role within the backroom team, ensuring his experience and passion remain integral to Sevilla's future endeavors.
