Josh Acheampong has signed a new contract with Chelsea, committing to the club until June 2029.
The 18-year-old defender, who has been part of Chelsea's youth setup since the age of eight, had previously been at the center of contract negotiations, which saw him temporarily removed from first-team duties.
Acheampong, a highly-rated talent, had drawn attention from top European clubs, including Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Bayern Munich. However, he has opted to remain with Chelsea, reaffirming his dedication to the club's long-term plans.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca expressed his enthusiasm for the new deal, highlighting the importance of Acheampong's development. The versatile defender, who can play as both a right-back and a center-back, has become an increasingly valuable asset, especially with injuries to key players like Reece James and Wesley Fofana.
Acheampong made his full debut for Chelsea in a 3-1 win against Astana in the UEFA Conference League on December 12, 2024, impressing in a full 90-minute performance. This debut marks the beginning of what could be an exciting career with the senior squad.
