Barcelona has confirmed that winger Lamine Yamal has sustained a grade 1 injury to the anterior tibiofibular ligament in his right ankle. This injury is expected to sideline the 17-year-old for approximately three to four weeks.

The injury occurred during Barcelona's recent La Liga match against Leganés, where the team suffered a 0-1 defeat. Yamal was subjected to a heavy challenge in the 17th minute, which impacted his right ankle—a region previously injured in November, causing him to miss several matches. Although he attempted to continue playing, his discomfort was evident, leading to his substitution in the 75th minute.

As a result of this setback, Yamal is projected to miss several crucial fixtures. He will be unavailable for the upcoming La Liga match against Atlético Madrid on Saturday, December 21. Additionally, his participation in the Copa del Rey encounter against Barbastro on January 4, 2025, is doubtful. The club remains hopeful that he will recover in time for the Spanish Super Cup semifinals against Athletic Club on January 8, 2025.

This injury compounds Barcelona's recent challenges, as the team has experienced a dip in form, securing only one victory in their last six league matches. The absence of Yamal, who has been a pivotal figure in their attacking lineup, presents an additional obstacle as they strive to regain momentum in both domestic and international competitions.
