Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has clarified the decision to substitute Gabriel Magalhães during their 5–2 victory over West Ham in the Premier League.
Gabriel, who was replaced at halftime, has been dealing with lingering effects of an injury sustained earlier in Lisbon against Sporting CP.
Arteta explained, "It was related to the previous injury that he had in Lisbon. He did great to be part of that, but with that result and with the niggle that he's feeling, we decided to take him off".
Against West Ham, Arsenal's goals came from Bukayo Saka, Magalhães, Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, and Leandro Trossard. This dominant win followed their 5–1 victory over Sporting CP earlier in the week. Gabriel was also subbed in the latter stages of that game as a precaution due to the same issue.
Arsenal will next face Manchester United in the Premier League on December 4.
