This revelation comes as the organization prepares for its 2025 ceremony and approaches its 30th anniversary in 2026.

In a heartfelt Instagram post, King expressed her shock, stating, "Learning I have stage four bowel cancer was something I never saw coming and I am still processing this unexpected reality." She emphasized her commitment to using this challenging experience to inspire resilience and advocate for early detection, adding, "If my story can save just one life, then it’s a story worth telling."

King also shared a video conversation with Labour MP Dawn Butler, where she described the diagnosis as "devastating" and urged individuals to be proactive about their health. She advised, "If you think something is wrong, do not take no for an answer" from medical professionals.

The MOBO Awards, established by King in 1996, have been instrumental in promoting Black music and culture in the UK. The platform has honored artists such as Dave, Ghetts, Headie One, Central Cee, Aitch, and Little Simz. King's contributions to the music industry have been recognized with several honors, including a CBE in 2018 for services to music and culture.

Following her announcement, numerous artists and public figures extended their support. Singer Oritsé Williams commented, "Strength and prayers all the way for you Kanya. To encourage and think of others whilst going through this is a true testament of your character." Comedian Judi Love added, "You are a truly incredible Queen for all that you're doing for the industry and talent."

King remains at the helm of the MOBO organization as it gears up for the upcoming awards and its significant 30th-anniversary celebration. Her enduring dedication continues to shape the landscape of Black music and culture in the UK.
