Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has appointed two-time former world heavyweight boxing champion Anthony Joshua as the state's Sports Ambassador.
The announcement was made following a meeting between the governor and Joshua at the Government House in Abeokuta on Monday. Governor Abiodun expressed his pride and recognition of Joshua's contributions to sports, stating, "We were delighted to present him with a letter appointing him as a Sports Ambassador for Ogun State."
Anthony Joshua, renowned for his achievements in the boxing ring, is also recognized for his marketability and influence. In 2017, he was ranked as the world's most marketable athlete, ahead of basketball player Stephen Curry. His "rags to riches" story, transitioning from a challenging background to global sports prominence, has inspired many. Joshua has also been included in the annual Powerlist as one of the 100 most influential Black Britons.
