Nigerian singer, songwriter, and record producer Tems has articulated her preference for minimizing mobile phone use.
In an interview with Glamour Magazine, she expressed a desire to "live in the world and have experiences," indicating that she seizes any opportunity to set aside her smartphone.
Tems credits her management and family, particularly her mother and brother, with keeping her grounded. She emphasized the importance of staying present and self-aware, stating, "In the end, you have to manage to stay present, be aware of yourself, and take care of yourself." She added, "The only way to develop is to continuously discover new perspectives and reevaluate your life. There is nothing in my life that I would change."
Tems, born Temilade Openiyi on June 11, 1995, in Lagos, Nigeria, has gained international recognition for her unique musical style. She rose to prominence with her feature on Wizkid's 2020 single "Essence," which earned her a Grammy Award nomination. In 2024, she released her debut studio album, "Born in the Wild," to critical acclaim. Throughout her career, Tems has received numerous accolades, including a Grammy Award, a Billboard Women in Music Award, four NAACP Image Awards, four BET Awards, and three Soul Train Music Awards.
