Manchester United head coach Rúben Amorim has expressed satisfaction with Alejandro Garnacho's response after the winger was omitted from the squad for the recent Manchester derby.

Garnacho, who had previously scored in United's FA Cup final victory against Manchester City in May, was notably absent from the lineup in the 2-1 win over their city rivals.

Addressing the situation, Amorim stated, "He trained really well. He seems a little bit upset with me, and that is perfect! I was really, really happy because I would do the same." He further confirmed Garnacho's readiness for the upcoming Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur, saying, "He is ready for this game."

Amorim clarified that the decision to exclude Garnacho from the derby was not disciplinary. He emphasized that his selections are based on comprehensive evaluations, including training performance and overall engagement with the team. "I evaluate everything: training, performance, game performance, engagement with the teammates, pushing the teammates up. Everything is on the line when we analyze and try to choose the players," Amorim explained.

In addition to Garnacho, forward Marcus Rashford was also absent from the derby squad. Amorim addressed Rashford's situation, noting that the player was unwell during the initial training session but participated well on the day of the game.

Rashford's future at the club has been the subject of speculation following his recent comments about seeking a new challenge. Amorim responded to these remarks by stating, "I cannot say more from that interview or speak some more about Rashford. I'm focused on the team."

Manchester United is set to face Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup quarter-final. Garnacho is expected to be included in the squad for this crucial midweek fixture, while Rashford's participation remains uncertain due to his recent illness.
