University of Abuja has been renamed Yakubu Gowon University to honor Nigeria's former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd), who recently celebrated his 90th birthday.
Minister of Information Mohammed Idris announced this decision to State House correspondents on Monday, December 15, following a Federal Executive Council meeting chaired by President Bola Tinubu.
Idris stated that the proposal will be forwarded to the National Assembly for formal approval.
