Nigerian artist Asake has elicited reactions from fans on social media following the unveiling of a markedly different appearance in a recently circulated video.
On Saturday, Asake posted footage of himself working solo in the studio, offering a glimpse into his forthcoming project. The Afrobeat star's fans were notably surprised by his new hairstyle, which is significantly shorter than his previously characteristic dreadlocks.
This development comes after a period of relative inactivity from Asake on social media. In May 2024, he deleted all his Instagram photos and unfollowed everyone, including prominent figures such as Olamide. His recent reappearance, featuring new tattoos and a preview of upcoming music, has reignited discussions among his fanbase.
Asake, born Ahmed Ololade, is known for his dynamic contributions to the Afrobeat genre. His debut album, "Mr. Money with the Vibe," released in September 2022, broke records for the largest opening day for an African album on Apple Music at that time. The album debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200 chart, marking the highest-charting Nigerian debut album in the chart's history at that time. His sophomore album, "Work of Art," released in June 2023, also debuted at number 66 on the Billboard 200.
In 2023, Asake achieved significant milestones, including winning the highly coveted Next Rated category at the Headies Awards and becoming the first African artist to headline and sell out a concert at the Barclays Center in New York City.
