Enzo Maresca Defends Robert Sánchez After Mistake in Chelsea’s 3-1 Win Over Wolves

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reiterated his support for goalkeeper Robert Sánchez following a recent error that led to Wolverhampton Wanderers' goal in their 3-1 victory on January 20, 2025. 

Sánchez mishandled a corner kick in stoppage time of the first half, allowing Matt Doherty to equalize for Wolves.

 Despite this mistake, Maresca emphasized Sánchez's overall contributions, stating, "How many mistakes has he made? Four? I think he saved us more than four. It happens to the strikers, central defenders. No problem. Robert is doing well." 

The match at Stamford Bridge saw Chelsea end a five-game winless streak in the Premier League. Tosin Adarabioyo opened the scoring in the 24th minute, followed by Doherty's equalizer. In the second half, Marc Cucurella and Trevoh Chalobah secured the win for Chelsea. 

Maersca also provided an update on midfielder Enzo Fernández, who has been sidelined due to injury. He mentioned that Fernández "probably needs some more days" and that the club expects to have more information in the next 24 to 48 hours. 

Looking ahead, Chelsea is set to face Manchester City in their next Premier League fixture. Maersca expressed optimism about the team's performance, stating, "We are happy we won the game. From tomorrow we will start to think about City."
