Luis de la Fuente, the head coach of the Spanish national team, has signed a contract extension that will see him remain in charge until after the 2028 European Championship.
The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the agreement, extending his tenure by two years beyond the original deal, which was set to end following the 2026 World Cup.

Since taking over in December 2022, Luis de la Fuente has delivered significant success for Spain. Under his leadership, the national team won the UEFA Nations League in 2023 and secured the European Championship title in 2024. His impressive record of 23 wins, three draws, and just two losses from 28 matches gives him an 82% win rate—the highest in the history of Spanish national team coaches with at least 15 matches managed.

The decision to renew de la Fuente's contract highlights the RFEF's confidence in his ability to lead Spain through major upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 World Cup in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, as well as the 2028 European Championship in Britain and Ireland. Despite receiving a lucrative offer from a Middle Eastern country, reportedly worth between six and seven million euros annually, de la Fuente chose to continue with Spain, prioritizing the sporting project over financial incentives. Additionally, he advocated for improved salaries for his coaching staff, a request the RFEF honored.

This extension reflects the federation's belief in Luis de la Fuente's vision for the national team's future and ensures continuity as Spain aims for further glory on the international stage.
