Speed Darlington Regains Freedom After Weeks in Police Custody

Nigerian singer Darlington Okoye, professionally known as Speed Darlington, has been released from police custody after nearly a month of detention. 

If you recall that He was arrested on November 27, 2024, during a performance in Owerri, Imo State, following allegations of defamation and cyberstalking made by Grammy award-winning artist Burna Boy. 

The arrest stemmed from a petition filed by Burna Boy, who accused Speed Darlington of making defamatory statements online, including allegations about Burna Boy's personal life and his association with American rapper Sean "Diddy" Combs. 

Human rights lawyer Deji Adeyanju played a pivotal role in securing Speed Darlington's release. Adeyanju confirmed that the singer was granted bail after meeting the conditions set by the police in Abuja. He expressed gratitude to all who supported the cause, stating, "Special appreciation to Egbon @YeleSowore, super reliable senior lawyer @stanalieke, and to all Nigerians for raising their voices for Speed Darlington."
