A$AP Rocky Acquitted of All Charges in Felony Assault Trial Over 2021 Shooting Incident

On Tuesday, a Los Angeles jury acquitted rapper A$AP Rocky of all charges in his felony assault trial. The 36-year-old artist, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, had faced two counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm related to a November 2021 incident involving his former friend, Terell Ephron, also known as A$AP Relli.

The altercation occurred in Hollywood, where Ephron alleged that Mayers pointed a handgun at him during a dispute and subsequently fired two shots, one of which reportedly grazed Ephron's hand. Mayers' defense team contended that the firearm in question was a prop gun used in a music video and that no real bullets were discharged. The jury, after deliberating for several hours, found Mayers not guilty on all counts.

Following the verdict, Mayers expressed his gratitude to the jury, stating, "Thank y'all for saving my life." He then embraced his partner, singer Rihanna, who had been present throughout the trial. The Los Angeles District Attorney's office acknowledged the jury's decision, reaffirming their commitment to pursuing accountability irrespective of an individual's status or influence.

This verdict concludes a legal battle that began with Mayers' arrest in April 2022 upon his return to Los Angeles from a trip with Rihanna. He was released on bail shortly thereafter. Ephron has also filed a civil lawsuit against Mayers, which remains pending.
