Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed disappointment with striker Darwin Núñez's reaction following a missed opportunity in the team's 2-2 draw against Aston Villa. Núñez failed to convert a close-range chance that could have secured a victory for Liverpool.
While Slot acknowledged that missed chances are part of the game, he emphasized that the striker's subsequent behavior was more concerning.
Slot noted that Núñez appeared overly disappointed after the miss, which affected his usual work rate and commitment to the team. He stated, "I can accept every miss... What was a bit harder for me to accept was his behaviour after that chance."
Slot plans to address this issue with Núñez, highlighting the importance of maintaining a strong work ethic regardless of individual moments. He remarked, "It's not about the chance for me, it is the 20 minutes after I want to talk to him about—not missing the chance."
In response, Núñez expressed resilience on social media, stating, "I wasn't the best three weeks ago nor am I the worst now. If I fall, I get up. You will never see me lower my arms. I'm going to leave everything until the last day I have to be here in Liverpool. Resilience!"
Liverpool's next match is against Manchester City, where Slot will be keen to see a positive reaction from Núñez and the team.
