"Vini Jr deserved to win the Ballon d’Or but I’m not surprised… not only because I didn’t win it or not, but because it lacks credibility. He won the Champions League and scored goals."
The Real Madrid star played a crucial role in his team's successful campaign last season, helping them secure both LaLiga and the Champions League titles. The 24-year-old forward netted 24 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions and found the back of the net in the Champions League final against Borussia Dortmund.
Despite his impressive performances, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to Manchester City's Rodri, who was instrumental in his club's fourth consecutive Premier League triumph and Spain's victory at Euro 2024. In response to the result, Real Madrid chose to boycott the Ballon d’Or ceremony, refusing to send any representatives to collect the Club of the Year award.
Ronaldo, a five-time Ballon d’Or winner, further emphasized his stance, adding:
"In my opinion, he deserved to win the golden ball. It was unfair... They gave it to Rodri, he deserved it too but I think they should have given it to Vinícius because he won a Champions League."
The Ballon d’Or is awarded based on votes from journalists representing the top 100 FIFA-ranked nations. However, the latest outcome has reignited debates about the credibility of the voting process and the criteria used in determining the winner.
