Akpom, born on October 9, 1995, in London, began his professional career with Arsenal and has had stints with clubs including Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City, Brighton & Hove Albion, Sint-Truiden, PAOK, and Middlesbrough. He joined Ajax in August 2023, where he made 68 appearances and scored 23 goals.
Ajax's technical director, Alex Kroes, commented on the transfer: "There has been interest in Chuba for a loan deal recently. We understand his sporting desire to gain more playing time, as he was mostly used as a substitute with us. Despite that, his tremendous commitment often made a significant impact for the team. We've thanked him for everything he's done for the club so far and wished him the best of luck in France and in the Champions League."
Lille, currently fourth in Ligue 1, has been dealing with injuries to key players, including midfielder Edon Zhegrova and forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo. Akpom's arrival aims to bolster their attacking options as they continue their campaign in both domestic and European competitions.
