Enzo Maresca Issues Clear Warning to Filip Jorgensen: "If You Play Long Ball, I'll Bench You"

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has reaffirmed his commitment to a possession-based strategy, emphasizing the necessity for goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen to adhere strictly to this approach. Maresca stated, "My message to Filip was: if you play a long ball, I will change you." 

This directive came during Chelsea's recent 4-0 victory over Southampton, where some fans expressed frustration with Jorgensen's short passing from the back. Despite the crowd's reaction, Maresca stood by his tactical plan, highlighting the importance of building play methodically from the defense. He acknowledged the challenges goalkeepers face in such situations but maintained that following the plan is essential. 

Jorgensen, who has recently replaced Robert Sanchez as Chelsea's first-choice goalkeeper, has faced scrutiny following a costly error in a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa. However, Maresca has expressed confidence in the young Danish international, emphasizing the need for consistency and adherence to the team's playing philosophy. 

Chelsea's recent performances have been under the spotlight, with the team currently positioned seventh in the Premier League. Upcoming fixtures against Leicester City and Arsenal are seen as pivotal, with reports suggesting that Maresca's future could depend on securing positive results in these matches.
