Jude Bellingham Receives Two-Match La Liga Ban for Alleged Verbal Abuse Towards Referee During Real Madrid Clash

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been suspended for two La Liga matches following his red card during the 1-1 draw against Osasuna on Saturday.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) announced the disciplinary action on Wednesday, citing "attitudes of disrespect or disregard towards referees" as the reason for the suspension.

The incident occurred in the first half when Bellingham allegedly directed abusive language towards referee José Munuera Montero. While Bellingham and Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti contended that there was a misunderstanding, with Bellingham claiming he said "f*** off" rather than "f*** you," the RFEF's disciplinary committee upheld the referee's account and imposed the two-match ban.

As a result, Bellingham will miss the upcoming La Liga fixtures against Girona and Real Betis. However, he remains eligible to participate in the Champions League match against Manchester City scheduled for Wednesday.

The incident has also led to significant backlash against referee Munuera Montero, who has reported receiving threats and harassment directed at him and his family. Montero expressed his distress over the situation and highlighted the broader issue of abuse towards referees, calling for change and protection within the sport.

Real Madrid has announced plans to appeal the suspension in an effort to have Bellingham available for the forthcoming league matches.
