Manchester City Defender Manuel Akanji Undergoes Successful Surgery; Expected to Miss 8-10 Weeks
Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has successfully undergone surgery following an adductor injury sustained during the team's recent Champions League match against Real Madrid. The Swiss international was substituted at halftime in the 3-2 defeat at the Etihad Stadium.

Manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that Akanji is expected to be sidelined for approximately eight to ten weeks. Guardiola acknowledged the significant effort Akanji has contributed this season, especially during periods when the team faced a shortage of players in defensive positions. He noted that both Akanji and Nathan Ake have played under challenging conditions to support the team, and ultimately, Akanji's body signaled the need for rest and recovery.

Following the procedure, Akanji shared an update with fans via social media, posting a photo from his hospital bed with the caption: "Surgery went well. The journey back to recovery has begun. Thanks for all your get-well messages!"

Akanji's absence adds to Manchester City's defensive challenges as they prepare for upcoming fixtures, including Premier League matches against Newcastle United and league leaders Liverpool, as well as the second leg of their Champions League playoff against Real Madrid. The team is currently in a tight race for a top-four finish, which is crucial for securing Champions League qualification for the next season.

In addition to Akanji's injury, midfielder Jack Grealish also sustained an injury during the same match against Real Madrid.
