Manchester United's Struggles Deepen with 2-0 Home Defeat to Crystal Palace

Manchester United endured a 2-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford on February 2, 2025. Jean-Philippe Mateta was instrumental for the visitors, netting both goals. The first came after he capitalized on a rebound following Maxence Lacroix's header hitting the bar, and the second was a close-range finish assisted by Daniel Munoz.
The match also saw a significant setback for United, as defender Lisandro Martínez suffered a suspected serious knee injury after a challenge with Ismaïla Sarr. Martínez was visibly distressed and had to be stretchered off the field. The severity of his injury is yet to be confirmed.

Manager Ruben Amorim's tactical decisions came under scrutiny, particularly his choice to start 19-year-old midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in an advanced role, leaving strikers Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund on the bench. This strategy did not yield the desired results, as United struggled offensively throughout the match.

This defeat marks Manchester United's 11th in the Premier League this season, causing them to slip to 13th in the standings, while Crystal Palace's victory propels them above United.
