Manuel Akanji Blow: Manchester City Defender Ruled Out of Real Madrid Showdown with Injury Setback

Manchester City defender Manuel Akanji has been sidelined for several weeks due to a muscular injury sustained during the first leg of the Champions League playoff against Real Madrid. Consequently, he will miss the crucial second leg at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.

Akanji's injury occurred during the initial match, where he was substituted at halftime. Initial assessments indicate that the Swiss international will be unavailable for Manchester City's upcoming fixtures, including Premier League matches against Newcastle United and Liverpool, in addition to the Champions League tie.

This development presents a significant challenge for manager Pep Guardiola, particularly in the right-back position, following Kyle Walker's loan move to AC Milan. Potential replacements include Rico Lewis or midfielder Matheus Nunes, who has previously been deployed in the right-back role.

The team is also contending with the absence of Jack Grealish, who suffered a hamstring injury in the same match and is expected to miss the upcoming games.

These injuries compound Manchester City's challenges as they prepare for the decisive second leg against Real Madrid, aiming to overturn a 3-2 deficit from the first leg.
